My history with an HP200LX (a small computer).

1980. I played a flight simulator by a PC in Tokyo.
1993. I got an HP100LX.

1995. I got an HP200LX. This is a 300g computer! It's much smaller than the usual laptop PC(digital).
1996. I started Niftyserve like Compuserve in US. It was not TCP/IP. It was a text service. But I could have many talks on Niftyserve by HP200LX with a simple MODEM (AIWA). The connection speed was 9600bps. 1997 (Feb.) From a hotel room in San Francisco, I could use email by Niftyserve via Compuserve even the parity bit was different to each others. (the parity bit of Compuserve was 7bit. But the parity bit of Niftyserve was 8bit.) I could help my colleagues who were working for a company (Ryoyo Electro co. in Tokyo) by email then. 1997. By any public (grey) telephone in Japan, I was using email by 200LX with a MODEM with 4 rechargeable NimH batteries (eneloop) by serial standard (RS-232C). As not yet released 3G/4G and also WiFi (by ADSL or optical fiber) in 1997, however I could use email anywhere in Japan and also any countries in the world on the earth. Even I was a heavy user of HP200LX, it was enough to recharge the two NimH batteries once a week. Sometime I could use the 300g computer for three weeks without any charging. Now I want to ask you "What is WiFi"? But before having the question, we go can back to the history of the computer science. 1999 (Oct.) While I was staying in Florida for Novell conference (Around 2,000 sales and sales engineers from all over the world), I connected to Niftyserve by the MODEM (by RS-232C) at a hotel room. 2000 (April) We visited at Siemens HQ in Munich Germany. Because my boss of Siemens Tokyo took me to Germany. I could connect to my email box by my HP200LX (cf. RAM 2MB) from Munich. I didn't need a laptop PC till 2002 for my travelling. At home, I was using an HP Desktop PC (Vectra) with 56kbps MODEM. (My colleague of Novell Japan was using ISDN 64kbps for connecting to the internet) I had been using my HP200LX since 1995 till 2012. It was for seventeen years. Especially I loved Phone book application. This is an application of DataBase. I learned DB basic by HP200LX. You should learn DB anyhow. For example, twitter is a nice DB. * 2003. I was working for a logistics consultant office in Tokyo. In November 2003, they started using WiFi at the office. I quit my job in December 2003. ( Coincidently I could quit from WiFi radiation then.) 2004 (March). We (our family) were staying in Bali for a month. I was making my diary with photos every day for a month. I was updating by ftp client by 28.8kbps MODEM. (An internet cafe gave me a dialup account & password.) The dialup connection was much stable and faster than the LAN connection in Bali in 2004. My laptop was having a heavy weight as made in 1996. It was Windows 95. (9 years ago). It was second hands. 2004 - 2006. I was using Windows2000 connected by a LAN cable by ADSL in Tokyo. The connection speed was around 1.5Mbps. Since 2006 till 2011, I had been using optical fiber. My seven PCs are connected by LAN cable in Wakayama prefecture (the west area of Japan). The optical fiber network was very stable. I got only one trouble for five years. 2011 (May). We moved from Japan to Bali Indonesia. I connected my Laptop by LAN cable at an internet service place. For making a reservation for AirAsia ticket, it took for 45 minutes. Oh.. 2012. I bought three USB MODEMs for 3G. After that I bought SmartFren. (in Bali) 2015. I made a contract for our optical fiber in Ubud Bali Indonesia. We have been using our five computers connected by LAN cables since 2015. I'm using a Linux Mint, a Windows7, a MAC OSX and two Raspberry. 2017 (April). I bought an Android (ASUS) for using Whatsapp. But I never use WiFi. I connect to the internet by 4G only for one minutes, five times a day. The total time for connecting by 4G is only 5 minutes/ day. Because I'm sensitive to the radiation by WiFi and also 4G/5G. 99.9% of MAC users, iPhone users and also Android users are using WiFi in the world. But Raspberry Pi has a LAN port even such a small sized PC! It is so nice. Thanks to the Raspberry engineers of UK! Without WiFi, I'm comfortable with my computer/ smartphone in Bali Indonesia. With WiFi, I'm uncomfortable. If somebody has a smartphone turning on the WiFi/4G (or both of them!) at our studio, always I could ask him/her to turn off the WiFi/4G. Because I could feel the radiation of WiFi/4G in 15 minutes at least. At our studio, my smartphone could catch the WiFi signal from seven or eight WiFi routers in neighbors like a villa or a hotel. One day, two years ago, I couldn't sleep at night because of the radiation by the WiFi routers in neighbors in Ubud. So since two years ago, I have been having to go back to my second place in the north of Tegalallang every night for having a sleep. It takes 40 minutes by car from Ubud to the mountain area. One of my German friend (actually she is a piano student at our studio) visited at Fiji one month ago. After she came back to Ubud, she told me by her louder voice. "I could sleep incredibly well at Fizzy! I thought there wasn't WiFi router." I think it's true. MAC doesn't have a LAN port. So I bought a LAN adapter for my MAC. My smartphone doesn't have a LAN port of course. So I'm using 4G. Never WiFi. Around 65% of the internet users are now using smartphone only, I think. They don't have a PC anymore. 5G network has started in Shanghai city in this year 2019. Rapidly they will expand the 5G area in the city, in China and all over the world till 2023. Shanghai Becomes World's First City With 5G Network Coverage: Report https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/shanghai-becomes-worlds- first-city-with-5g-network-coverage-report-2015195 Then humans don't need optical fiber anymore. We use 5G only. People might laugh LAN cable is old fashioned. However, how about the radiation by 5G technology? Maybe it would be stronger than the 4G signal. I might say good-bye for everybody then. I searched by google one year ago. And I got some information regarding WiFi radiation as follows. Weapons expert warns Wi-Fi in schools could cause birth defects http://www.thestarphoenix.com/health/Weapons+expert+ warns+schools+could+cause+birth+defects/3441143/story. html#ixzz0yLw9IMGQ WiFi banned from pre-school childcare facilities in a bold move by French government http://www.naturalnews.com/ 043695_electrosensitivity_wifi_French_government.html Controversial Paper Suggests Wi-Fi Exposure More Dangerous To Kids Than Previously Thought https://www.forbes.com/sites/robertszczerba/2015/01/13/ study-suggests-wi-fi-exposure-more-dangerous-to-kids- than-previously-thought/#634e81ce1bd4 Why children absorb more microwave radiation of WiFi than adults: The consequences http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/ S2213879X14000583 'Wi-fi refugees' shelter in West Virginia mountains http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-14887428 * California government buried the truth about cell phone radiation causing brain cancer FULL TEXT of once- secret document reveals how EMFs penetrate "deeper into a child's brain http://www.naturalnews.com/2017-03-03-california- government-buried-the-truth-about-cell-phone-radiation- causing-brain-cancer-full-text-secret-document-emfs- penetrate-deeper-into-a-childs-brain.html * Now I'm dreaming using my 200LX with a simple MODEM in the world. It was a perfect mobile computer. The weight was 300g. We could use a 200LX without battery charging for about two weeks. People say that the keyboard is so small. But for me, it was unforgettable good touch. I made a lot of text by HP200LX by English and also Japanese language (Font: hiragana, katakana and kanji letters). While I was writing an email reply, the network connection was disconnected by the terminal application (KTX). So I could have time to write and edit without any disturbing by a new message from somebody. (However even now in 2019, while I'm writing a reply for Whatsapp, I disconnect from 4G network.) We got Windows95 in 1995. Since this year, most of all companies had started focusing TCP/IP instead of the host computing. Compuserve and Niftyserve were using host computers as well. But they saw the maintenance cost for a host computer for one year. They could recognize and understand that they should switch to TCP/IP as soon as possible. From 1990 till 1995, there were nice UNIX vendors like SUN Microsystems, HP, IBM and DEC. A UNIX machine was very expensive, but it can be used by UNIX on TCP/IP. In mean whiles, they were thinking PCs were like toys, neither does a PC handle TCP/IP because TCP/IP was too heavy to run. But the CPU progression by Intel and Windows95/NT/2000 OS by Microsoft changed the world computing environment. Since 1995, a PC has been able to run TCP/IP till 2019, this year. In 1996, I heard a lovely story from my boss who was working for DEC Japan (Tokyo). DEC was keeping their VMS as their UNIX system till around 1992. It was a good system but DEC has gone. Then some engineers moved from DEC to Microsoft. They started making Windows ( like a UNIX. It was not for Windows95) there. After they made it, they felt it was the next version of VMS. Please think about the alphabet order. The next letter of V is W of Windows. The next letter of M is N. The next letter of S is T. Yes they made a name of the new Operating System as WNT (Windows NT) as the next version of VMS of DEC. * In Ubud Bali, Indonesia, I'm using Linux Mint and also Raspberry by LAN cables with optical fiber. I love Linux Mint and Raspberry. I'm using an Android (smartphone) for Whatsapp by 4G. Never used by WiFi. But I never forget some scenes while I was using my HP200LX. If I thought about my HP200LX, I could feel happiness. Thank you everybody.
